An apostille is an official certificate that makes your document valid in another country. It exists because of the Hague Apostille Convention of 1961 — an agreement between more than 120 countries that they will accept each other's public documents when they carry this one standardized certificate, instead of each country demanding its own chain of embassy legalizations.

In practice: the State of Florida attaches a certificate verifying that the signature and seal on your document are genuine. The receiving country checks that certificate and accepts the document — no consulate visits, no further authentication.

One thing to know: an apostille only works between Hague member countries. If your destination country isn't a member, your document needs full consular legalization instead — a different, longer process. Tell us the destination and we'll confirm which one you need before you send anything.

Usually yes — the State of Florida apostilles original documents. But there are important exceptions, and sending the wrong thing costs you a week, so when in doubt, ask us first — checking is free.

What we can usually accept instead of a mailed original:

• Court-certified copies issued by a Florida Clerk of the Court
• Electronically certified official records issued by a Florida Clerk of the Court — these carry a digital signature, a tamper-evident seal, and a verification QR code (Palm Beach County and other Florida counties issue these as PDFs)
• Documents electronically signed and certified by the issuing institution

Processing time (1–2 business days) is our work with the State of Florida. Shipping time is how long the mail takes to reach us and come back to you — that's separate and depends on the option you pick.
